Control Laser Corporation partnered with Sumitomo DEMAG, Sajar Plastics, and Rethink Robotics at the Orange County Convention Center for the world’s largest plastics exhibition, The Plastics Show (NPE 2018). Control Laser was invited by Sumitomo, three weeks before the show, to integrate one of our laser systems into their production line to mark injection molded plastic in an in-line setting and demonstrate our automation abilities. We were sent sample material for our applications lab to create a contrasting laser mark on their different colored plastics. After inspecting the marks, they wanted to collaborate. Our engineering and software departments quickly developed a solution using our proprietary software, Laser Marking Studio™, to accept input signals from Sawyer, Rethink Robotics’ robot, to know when to fire the laser.
The Laser Experts Since 1965
Automation is one of our specialties at Control Laser. Over the past 50 years, Control Laser has worked with numerous companies to provide custom automated solutions and standard workstations. Control Laser has worked with thousands of parts and materials from many industries. With a team of dedicated software, electrical, and mechanical engineers, there’s nothing we can’t handle.
Sumitomo companies are in the Japanese family of Sumitomo which can be traced back to the years of 1630. At the present time, the Sumitomo Group comprises 37 companies and in 2007 ranked among the five largest industrial groups worldwide. Sumitomo Demag is the plastics machinery division of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. They have been active since the inception of the plastics era both in the injection molding as well as the injection blow-molding sectors. Today, they rank undisputedly among the technology leaders in this area. In the Japanese market, every fourth electrical injection molding machine is a Sumitomo machine. With the merger of Demag, Sumitomo is now gaining a strong role in Europe.
About The Plastics Show (NPE)
NPE is the world’s largest trade fairs for plastics and plastics technology. It covers the entire spectrum of the plastics industry: from raw materials and additives for the plastics manufacturing, plastics processing machines to plastic semi-finished and finished products.
